  • Mick Savino

We love you Mick!

With heavy hearts, we share that our dear friend and long-time musical partner, bassist Mick Savino, passed away suddenly on July 12, 2025. Mick was the heartbeat of the Jim E Leggs Trio. His musicianship and spirit shaped our sound, strengthened our camaraderie, and brought us joy. We feel his loss deeply but continue to play in his honor.

For Mick, playing music wasn’t just an art. It was a source of profound happiness. If we had the privilege of performing for you, please know that those experiences brought immense joy to his life, and for that, we are forever grateful.

My bandmate, my friend, my brother from another mother, as some would say. I had the pleasure of performing with Mick for over 17 years...A true professional in every sense of the word and extremely talented bassist, he had an uncanny way of knowing just what fill l was going to play in a song and nail it every time. When the song was over, we would look at one another smiling and many times say...WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT! (Laughing out loud) for a few seconds. A special talent that only he and I had. Being a percussionist (conga player) for over 50 years, that level of feel and tightness is hard to come by and will surely be missed. I am still to this day coming to grips that he is gone, but will always remember his smile, laugh, and brotherly advice. RIP my brother...till we meet again.
- Frank (Cheech) Minuto

Mick was the cohesive force within the trio: the catalyst, the motivator, and the consistent strategist. His focus was not just on executing tasks efficiently but on savoring each moment and recognizing achievements along the way. With a mere look, he could foster consensus and create a genuine sense of unity.
His optimism was infectious. Mick believed in others, even in moments when they doubted themselves.
Elegance defined Mick, not just in demeanor but in every aspect of his life. Whether it was the musical phrases he crafted, the equipment he chose, or even the quality of what he consumed, he rejected the ordinary.
As a true friend and a passionate musical partner since 2012, Mick’s absence is deeply felt. His energy, his integrity, and his unwavering support shaped not only our music but also the bond we shared. I will miss him profoundly.
